In the heart of Stockholm, where Scandinavian minimalism reigns supreme, a bold and colorful transformation has taken place. The Swedish interior design and architecture firm Studio Ramson has breathed new life into an old apartment, creating a space that defies the typical Scandi aesthetic and embraces a more international, layered, and intimate style. This project, located in the historic Östermalm district, is a testament to the firm's ability to push boundaries and create a unique, character-driven interior.
The brief was simple yet challenging: to create an international feel, reflecting the client's globetrotting lifestyle. Studio Ramson's response was a warm and earthy color palette, inspired by the surrounding façades, which transformed the apartment into a cozy and elegant sanctuary. The designers' first move was to convert the old service corridor into a new architectural spine, lined with oak paneling, creating a tactile and continuous element that runs through the entire apartment.
This simple yet significant change introduced a distinct atmosphere and sense of identity, turning what was once an unremarkable passageway into one of the defining spaces of the home. The designers also subtly adjusted ceiling heights to create a calmer, more cohesive rhythm throughout the interior. The result is a space that feels both inviting and sophisticated, with a tactful use of polychromatic hues.
The apartment's transformation goes beyond the visual. The designers fully upgraded every interior surface, from the kitchen to the bathroom, and custom-designed all the carpentry to fit seamlessly into the space. The master bedroom's cream and burgundy pill-dot patterned bed, the azure folding screen in the sky blue dining room, and the dark blue armchair are all bespoke pieces, adding to the apartment's unique character.
Despite a tight deadline, Studio Ramson delivered a highly considered result, incorporating bespoke joinery and integrated technical elements such as lighting and audio. The final product is a big improvement from the apartment's past form, with a stronger sense of identity, layered, warm, and quietly confident.
