Blues Recall Hugh McGing: What This Means for the Team (2026)

Breaking news for Blues fans! The St. Louis Blues are shaking things up, and it involves a familiar face returning to the fold. Doug Armstrong, the team's President of Hockey Operations and General Manager, has just announced the recall of forward Hugh McGing from the Springfield Thunderbirds, their American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

McGing, a seasoned player at 27 years old, has been putting in work with the Thunderbirds this season, appearing in 18 games. He's managed to rack up six points, split between four goals and two assists, while also accumulating 25 penalty minutes.

But here's where his AHL career gets interesting. McGing, a native of Chicago, Illinois, has a solid track record in the AHL. Over 298 regular-season games, he's amassed a total of 156 points. That includes 60 goals and 96 assists, along with 235 penalty minutes.

And this is the part most people miss: McGing isn't entirely new to the Blues. He's already played in six regular-season games with the team.

McGing's journey with the Blues began when he was drafted in the fifth round, 138th overall, back in the 2018 NHL Draft.

Do you think McGing will make a significant impact on the Blues? What are your expectations for his performance? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
