Attention Seattle commuters! There’s an important update that you need to know about regarding your travel plans this weekend. From 11 p.m. on Saturday until 10 a.m. on Sunday, the Link light rail service will not be operating between the Capitol Hill and Stadium stations. This temporary halt is part of Sound Transit’s efforts to enhance the signaling systems in the Downtown Seattle Transit Tunnel, a crucial step towards improving safety and efficiency for all riders.
During this overnight interruption, buses will step in to replace the usual 1 Line trains between these specific stations. Riders should expect an additional travel time of around 30 minutes while using the bus service, as Sound Transit has advised.
Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the Link light rail trains will continue to run on their regular schedules outside of the affected section. Between Lynnwood and Capitol Hill, trains will arrive every 15 minutes, while service between Stadium and Federal Way will be available every 10 to 15 minutes.
To facilitate commuting during this period, Sound Transit will operate shuttle buses at an interval of 10 to 15 minutes, ensuring that they stop at all intermediate stations between Capitol Hill and Stadium. The shuttle bus service will align with the Link light rail’s operational hours, running from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. on Saturday and then resuming from 5:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.
So, if you’re planning to travel during these times, make sure to adjust your schedule accordingly to avoid any inconvenience. But here’s where it gets interesting: how do you feel about the necessity of these upgrades? Do you think such interruptions are justified for the long-term benefits of improved transit systems?
