Alexandra Eala, a rising talent on the WTA Tour, has been celebrated for her impressive ascent in 2025. This young Filipino player has been smashing national records with remarkable ease, establishing herself as a formidable opponent. At just 20 years old, Eala is already on the path to becoming one of the greatest tennis players the Philippines has ever seen. The support of an entire nation, coupled with the praise of tennis legend Rafael Nadal, has certainly fueled the hype surrounding her.
But here's where it gets interesting: there's another player, 18-year-old Iva Jovic, who might be flying under the radar. Could Jovic be an even bigger threat than Eala in 2026?
Interestingly, Eala and Jovic have even been playing doubles together recently. Jovic, the American talent, is already ranked 30th in the world, nearly 20 spots ahead of Eala. Both players have reached the semi-finals of the ongoing ASB Classic. In 2025, Jovic made her debut in the main draw of all four Grand Slam tournaments, securing victories in Melbourne, Paris, and New York.
And this is the part most people miss: What truly sets Jovic apart is her recent victory at the WTA 500 tournament in Guadalajara, claiming her first elite-level title.
However, Jovic's undeniable talent shouldn't overshadow Eala's achievements. Eala has also come close to winning her first WTA Tour title, losing the final of the Eastbourne Open to Maya Joint despite having four championship points. Had she won, Eala would have made history as the first Filipina to capture a WTA Tour title. History repeated itself in the ASB Classic match, where she lost after having a match point.
It would be unwise to bet against Eala achieving this feat in 2026, as both she and Jovic aim to dominate the women's game and challenge the established elite.
