Khloé Kardashian recently responded strongly to the "disturbing comments" surrounding her brother-in-law Tristan Thompson's brother, Amari Thompson, participating in dance class.
In a heartfelt video shared on her Instagram Stories this past Saturday, Khloé expressed her frustration with the negative remarks she encountered after posting about Amari’s dance class. "The last time I showcased Amari in his dance class, I was met with outrageous comments questioning whether he even understood what dance is," she remarked. "This kind of gross commentary is unnecessary and unwelcome."
She continued, "If you haven't had someone with special needs in your life and are unaware of their interests or what brings them joy, it’s best not to comment. And if you're not a fan of this type of content, just scroll past. We're all doing great over here!"
At 41 years old, Kardashian then announced her intention to share several clips from Amari's dance class, which she had received permission to post. "I want to shine a light on this incredible dance academy that offers so much for children with special needs," she elaborated. "It’s truly beautiful and special, and these kids radiate happiness."
Subsequently, she posted videos showing Amari—who lives with Lennox-Gastaut Syndrome, a severe form of epilepsy—having a wonderful time in his dance class. One clip featured instructors joyfully spinning the 19-year-old around while he smiled brightly from his specialized power wheelchair. Additionally, Khloé shared a cheerful photo of herself alongside some dance teachers, all posing with Amari. "I am so grateful for places and people like this!" she captioned the snapshot.
Back in July, the star from Hulu revealed that she has taken on the primary caregiving role for Amari, filling in due to Tristan's demanding NBA career. She explained that Tristan's late mother, Andrea Thompson, had been Amari's sole caretaker in Canada until she sadly passed away from a heart attack in January 2023. After Andrea's death, Khloé, along with her family and Tristan, decided to bring Amari back to the United States.
"Tristan is frequently traveling for his NBA commitments, often shifting locations every few days, which is not ideal for Amari, who experiences multiple seizures daily due to his condition," she clarified.
Now residing in Los Angeles with Khloé, Amari is supported by two exceptional caretakers whom she has hired to assist with his needs. Khloé, who shares a daughter, True (7), and a son, Tatum (3), with Tristan, emphasized the importance of having Amari around for her children, nieces, and nephews, stating that it exposes them to various experiences and perspectives in life.
In September 2023, Tristan sought temporary guardianship over Amari, asserting that their father, Trevor Thompson, had not participated in Amari's upbringing since 2014. This legal arrangement allows Tristan to oversee Amari's finances—including an inheritance of $103,475 from their late mother—and to make decisions regarding travel and living arrangements.
Khloé and Tristan officially ended their relationship in 2021 after Maralee Nichols filed a paternity suit against him, claiming he fathered her son, Theo, who was born in December of that year.
What do you think about Khloé's decision to address the negativity surrounding Amari's participation in dance class? Is there more we can do to support individuals with special needs? Share your thoughts!
