At 71, Christer Ekberg is in top shape, and he's helping people over 50 get stronger. But here's where it gets controversial: instead of relaxing into retirement, Ekberg, a former chief operations officer of Eurokars Group Singapore, has dedicated his time to helping seniors stay strong, fit, and active. And this is the part most people miss: Ekberg, a certified personal trainer, has always been passionate about health and fitness, and his stressful job in the car industry didn't stop him from making fitness a priority. Born and raised in Sweden, Ekberg rode horses on his grandfather's farm and wanted to be a professional jockey. But he ended up working for global carmakers, including Porsche, in Europe, the Middle East, and the Asia-Pacific region. His stressful job involved frequent overseas travel, yet he always made time for fitness. "I traveled a lot in the early part of my career between the 1980s and 1990s. Very few hotels back then had a gym, so I'd work out in my room, doing weight-bearing exercises like push-ups, sit-ups, and squats. For cardio, I'd jog or run outdoors," he says. So, how does Ekberg stay in top shape at 71? And what can people over 50 learn from his approach to fitness?
