These titles, often referred to as 'spam easy Gamerscore games,' are designed to be completed in minutes, offering little to no value beyond inflating a player’s Gamerscore. In 2025, this trend reached new heights, with 881 out of 2,262 games (39%) falling into this category—a 204% increase from 2024. And this is the part most people miss: these games aren’t just cluttering the storefront; they’re diluting the achievements system that Microsoft once pioneered.
The surge in spam games is largely driven by developers and publishers looking to cash in quickly. These titles often launch with 1,000 Gamerscore and receive updates that boost the total to 5,000, all while offering minimal gameplay. What’s more, some publishers have found a loophole: releasing the same game across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC, each with a separate but equally easy achievement list. This practice not only floods the store but also exploits players who are eager to pad their Gamerscore.
One publisher, Afil Games, stands out as a prime example. In 2025, Afil released a staggering 191 spam games on Xbox, many of which appear to be near-identical copies with different art styles. While these games may look impressive in quantity, they offer little substance, with average ratings of 2.4/5 or lower. Microsoft’s approval of these titles raises questions about their commitment to maintaining a high-quality storefront. Are they prioritizing quantity over quality, or is there a deeper issue at play?
The impact of these spam games extends beyond clutter. In 2025, they accounted for 21,601 achievements and 2,073,500 Gamerscore—a whopping 58% of all Gamerscore added to the Xbox ecosystem that year.
